The situation
vTestify runs teleconferencing for legal depositions, where the recording is not a convenience feature — it is the record. That changes what “working” means: audio and video transcription output has to satisfy governmental, enterprise and ADA requirements simultaneously, and a deposition cannot be re-run because the software had an off day.
My role
Full-stack engineer owning features from requirements through delivery, across the React frontend and the Rails and GraphQL services behind it.
The challenge
Compliance requirements from three different directions do not automatically agree with each other, and they are decided long before any code is written. The work meant gathering requirements directly from B2B clients, resolving what the standards actually demanded of the output, and then building to that — rather than shipping a feature and discovering afterwards that it failed an accessibility or evidentiary bar.
The outcome
Features shipped with their compliance obligations satisfied as part of the definition of done, and with the same engineer accountable from the client conversation through to QA — which is what kept requirements from being lost in a handoff.
